Dr. Edward Rubin Focuses on Regenerative Medicine in 2018

2018 is the breakthrough year for Regenerative Medicine

Our body has the ability to heal itself! Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a prime example of using regenerative techniques to help heal the body. It can be used for most joint pains of the knees, hips and shoulders as well as for sports injuries.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) has been available for well over 10 years and the research has shown benefit for sports injuries, such as ligament sprains, chronic inflammation and tendon tears. It is most commonly used to help arthritic joints to re-grow cartilage.

So, what exactly is platelet rich plasma therapy?

It’s a minimally invasive non- painful procedure that involves drawing a small quantity of a patient’s blood. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge machine to separate the red blood cells from the platelets. Once this process is complete, the concentrated platelets and plasma are re-injected into the damaged area – knees, elbows, shoulders and hips. The entire procedure takes approximately 30 minutes.

The science behind (PRP) lies in the ability of platelets to release growth factors that help aid in the recovery of the tissue. In most studies, the benefits of (PRP) when used for osteoarthritis will last on an average of 9-12 months and in some cases up to a year. Usually patients receive only 1 (PRP) injection, but it may be repeated if needed

If you feel you may be a candidate for (PRP) injections or other chronic pain conditions, contact Dr. Edward Rubin for a comprehensive consultation at 516-492-3100.
