MinuteMan G3: Minimally Invasive Interspinous Fusion
The MinuteMan G3 by Spinal Simplicity is a percutaneous interspinous/interlaminar fusion device — a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open spinal fusion surgery for patients with lumbar spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis.
What It Treats
The MinuteMan G3 is indicated for:
- Lumbar spinal stenosis — Narrowing of the spinal canal causing leg pain and difficulty walking
- Grade I–II spondylolisthesis — Vertebral slippage causing instability and pain
- Lumbar degenerative disc disease — With associated instability
- Patients who have not adequately responded to conservative care and are seeking an alternative to open fusion
How the Procedure Works
The MinuteMan G3 is inserted percutaneously through a small incision — typically less than 2 cm. The titanium implant is placed in the interspinous and interlaminar space between adjacent vertebrae, where it immediately stabilizes the motion segment. Integral bone graft chambers within the device allow for solid bony fusion over time.
The procedure is performed under fluoroscopic guidance and can be done under local or general anesthesia. Most patients go home the same day.
Advantages Over Open Fusion
Traditional posterior lumbar fusion (TLIF, PLIF) requires significant muscle dissection, longer operating time, and a more demanding recovery. The MinuteMan G3 approach offers:
- Smaller incision — Percutaneous technique, no large surgical exposure
- Less muscle damage — Preserves the surrounding musculature
- Faster recovery — Most patients mobilize the same day
- Outpatient procedure — No hospital stay required for most patients
- Immediate stabilization — Structural support from day one
Frequently Asked Questions
How does this compare to the MILD procedure or Vertiflex? The MILD procedure and Vertiflex are decompression/spacer devices — they do not create fusion. The MinuteMan G3 creates permanent bony fusion between vertebrae, making it appropriate for patients with instability or spondylolisthesis where fusion is the goal.
How long is recovery? Most patients are walking the same day. Return to light activity typically occurs within 1–2 weeks, with full recovery at 6–12 weeks as fusion consolidates.
Is it covered by insurance? Coverage varies by insurer and indication. Our office will verify your benefits in advance.
